Die biologische Vielfalt der Erde wird heute vor allem durch andere Faktoren als den Klimawandel beeinträchtigt, wie die Abholzung von Wäldern, das Verschwinden natürlicher Lebensräume, den Einsatz von Pestiziden und verschiedene Formen der Umweltverschmutzung. Der Klimawandel wird jedoch in den kommenden Jahrzehnten weitgehend zum Verschwinden von Arten beitragen.

Erde aus dem Weltraum
Die Wälder der Welt spielen eine wichtige Rolle bei der Klimaregulierung, denn sie entziehen der Atmosphäre das wärmespeichernde Gas Kohlendioxid, indem sie Biomasse in Stämmen, Ästen und Wurzeln wachsen lassen.
